Control over game resources in conditions of African swine fever (ASF) became the main topic of the seminar in Khabarovsk

Game users and inspectors of Khabarovsky province took part in the seminar “Key issues of sustainable hunting management” organized on April 19 by the Khabarovsky Hunting Management Department and WWF Russia.
Comments Leonid Ivanov, acting Chairman of the Hunting Management Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Khabarovsky province: “The purpose of our seminar is to organize joint work of the governmental authority and game users on a regular basis, to take measures for coordination, experience exchange, efficient cooperation to protect wildlife resources and their habitat in ASF conditions. This is important both for the sustainable hunting management, and for preventing conflict situations with rare predators, first of all the Amur tiger, having the wild boar as the primary prey base”.

More than 30 participants from 16 hunting clubs of Khabarovsky province attended the seminar. Experts from the Hunting Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Khabarovsky province and WWF Russia Amur branch presented a series of lectures to improve the level of juridical knowledge of game users and inspectors, including production control, practical exercises, presentations of measures to increase the number of game resources in conditions of a low number of wild boars. 

“The institution of game resources management is now supported at the federal level. Thus, a number of amendments have been introduced to the legislation of the Russian Federation on January 1, 2021, expanding the rights and powers of game keepers. Therefore, at a practical seminar, the participants discussed these amendments and their extended jurisdictions,” comments Olga Zherebkina, senior specialist on legal projects of WWF Russia Amur branch.

Each hunter should know that at the request of an authorized inspector, the hunter is obliged to unload the weapon, stop the vehicle, present the documents: a hunting ticket, a permit to store and carry hunting weapons, a permit for the extraction of game resources, as well as to present for inspection: products of the hunt, hunting tools and vehicles. Violation of these requirements entails administrative punishment in the form of deprivation of the right to hunt for a period of 1 to 2 years.

The participants of the seminar received information leaflets and materials, jointly developed by specialists of the Hunting Management Department of Khabarovsky province and WWF Russia Amur branch.
