WWF Kids Friends Club “The swifts” took part in the Sayan Ring Festival!

17 july 2008
The Vth International festival of ethnic music “The Sayan Ring” finished. Young friends of WWF became the full members of the entertaining action

This year the festival was visited by a record number of spectators – more than 25 thousands of people! During three days – from 11th to 13th July – the jolly atmosphere ruled in the Shushenskoe village: performances of the world ethnic music stars, ancient Slavic ceremonies and exotic rites, competitions and different workshops – all these created an inimitable colour of the festival that became an integral part of cultural life for thousands of people.

This year children from the WWF Kids Friends Club “The swifts” (Krasnoyarsk region) took part in the festival. They prepared colourful newspapers about their activities on the territory of the Ergaki Nature Park and kindly told about WWF’s work in Russia and around the world. Hundreds of festival visitors got a sticker as a present and a leaflet with an appeal to become WWF’s member. Besides, the visitors of the headquarter in the camping area knew about WWF’s activities in the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion by getting the Information Bulletins. All competitioners in the “My three reasons to save the planet” contest got the favors – cards, pens, signs and magnets with pandas, and the winners got boxes for CDs and the environmental computer games. We didn’t only succeed to organize the exhibition of kids’ paintings “Snow leopard – the spirit of the mountains”: at the opening day it rained and children were afraid to spoil the little masterpieces.

But otherwise the festival succeeded! The guys not only talked about WWF activities but also participated in different competitions and games. And the guests of the festival could make sure that the ethnic festival was a unique opportunity to remember about their cultural heritage, their roots and the necessity to save both traditional cultures and living planet.
