MTS takes another step in Land of the Leopard protection against forest fires
“After installation of the first camera in 2009 in the upper reaches of the Pyazanovka River we have decided to fix two more cameras in Khasansky and Nadezhdinsky districts on a free basis, to ensure their protection, electricity supply and video signal transmission, notes Galina Nazarenko, deputy development director of MTS Macro-Region “The Far East”.
The monitoring of forest fires in the Land of the Leopard with the help of surveillance cameras has proved to be very effective. Its main advantage is the quickness of fire detection. Unlike remote sensing it allows to register fire outbreak practically immediately when the burning area is not too large.
In February 2013, WWF handed two surveillance cameras to the Land of the Leopard National Park thus enabling the Park to control 27 000 hectares of protected lands.
The Park’s administration plans to purchase and install three more cameras.
