Best ranger competitions
The competitions were organized by the Coordinating Council of directors of nature reserves and national parks of the southern Far East, «Bastak» Nature Reserve with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation and WWF-Russia Amur branch.
«WWF Russia is working in close partnership with nature reserves and national parks trying to help specialists to improve their professional skills. Besides best ranger competitions, we annually hold coordinating boards of directors, seminars for departments of environmental education, scientific conferences. Regular information and experience exchange help to improve the efficiency of protected areas management,' - says Svetlana Titova, coordinator of Protected Areas at the Amur branch of WWF-Russia.
47 inspectors from 16 nature reserves and national parks participated in the event this time. After two rounds of competition the team of Lazovsky Nature Reserve showed the best results and became the winner. All rangers have shown great athletic training, good knowledge of administrative legislation, as well as the flora and fauna of the Far East. The team of Bastak Nature Reserve took second place, the rangers of Anyuiskiy National Park became the third.
Vladimir Andronov, the chairman of the jury and the head of the Coordinating Council, stressed out the high level of rangers training improved in comparison with previous years: «I participated in all ranger competitions of the south of the Far East. I’m glad to observe the constant growth of professional skills of state rangers. This means that the prestige of working in nature reserves and national parks is growing.»
