WWF supported technical trainings for the PA rangers of Tyva Republic

Trainings organized within the WWF Program “Protected Areas for a Living Planet” for the staff members of the Protected Areas Department of Tyva Republic brought first results

Protected Areas Department was created in 2008 and got under the supervision all regional PAs (zakazniks and natural monuments). Implementation of new functions demanded professional retraining of specialists. That’s why the abovementioned trainings were organized.

Trainings were held in the Durgenskiy zakaznik where the participants became acquainted with the arrangement of the cordons and adjacent territories. The theoretical part of the trainings included lectures on environmental legislation, authorities of the relevant departments, law enforcement and judicial practice, accident prevention and raids organization.

After trainings the PA rangers made up 10 administrative offence reports which exceeds last year figures. Also a group of rangers conducted raids on the territory of the “Taiga”, “Tapsy”, “Ondum” and “Eerbek” zakazniks and revealed 9 violations of the PAs regime.

Under breakers detention rangers used photo- and video equipment which gave the foundation to the data base creation. It must influence on the poaching and illegal logging level decrease because constant information sharing between rangers will be set.

Subsequent to the results of the trainings an agreement between “Ubsunurskaya Kotlovina” Zapovednik and Protected Areas Department was made about the inclusion of the PA Department rangers to the interagency antipoaching unit. Also in April joint raids were conducted with the Federal Agency for Fishery on the territory of the “Chagytaiskiy” zakaznik.
