Customs Officers of Altai – Sayan got trained on wildlife contraband

To provide for efficient control over wildlife trade and fight wildlife contraband in the region WWF organized a specific training for customs officers of Altai-Sayan Ecoregion to ensure that all key customs have authori

Special practical workshop for customs officers of Siberian Customs Department was conducted in the largest Siberian city, Novosibirsk. 15 customs officers from 8 regional offices were trained in CITES and Red Book regulations on international trade of flora and fauna, special techniques to prevent illegal transportation of wildlife across state border, identification of species and their derivates. Experienced experts of Russian Customs Academy, WWF and Siberian Ecological Center (regional NGO) were the training lecturers.

The Atlas of animal species and their derivates – the main objects to illegal trade in Altai-Sayan Ecoregion was published for customs offices and customs check – points of Ecoregion along with the CD with methodical information on illegal trade on wild plants and animals and two kinds of posters with CITES species of Altai-Sayan Ecoregion.

Sergey Lyapustin, an expert from the Far East of Russia was an honoured lector of the workshop.
