Unique Forests of Russia – Korean and Siberian Pine Stands of the Nuts Harvesting Zones – Celebrate its 55 Anniversary

08 february 2008
On February 6, 1953 the Union of Ministers of the former USSR signed № 342 decree that gave new protective status to the valuable Korean and Siberian pines stands.

“We hope that the key protective point of the decree signed 55 years ago by Stalin will be ignored nowadays. And that in new legal acts of the forest legislation will allow users of pine nuts harvesting zones to show good examples of sustainable forest use”, - notes Evgenii Lepyoshkin, Forest program coordinator at the Amur branch of WWF Russia.
