The campaign “Plant your cedar!” helps to restore taiga in Siberia
Annually forestfire kills hundreds of thousands hectares of taiga in Siberia. To provide conservation of coniferous forest ASER office of WWF Russia launch the campaign «Plant your cedar!». Started in Fall 2013 campaign united society, government and business in an effort to restore the unique Siberian cedar forests. This is second year when business companies support planting financially. Thousands of cedars, pines and spruce were planted in the south of Krasnoyarsk kray and neighboring Khakassia Republic.
In 2014 WWF supported the initiative of the international company «Flora Express' which funded the planting of the 11 hectares of trees this May in two region of Russia. Thanks to this вклад about 38,500 young coniferous trees were planted in Siberia. Administrative and organizational support was provided by the Ministries of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Krasnoyarsk Krai and republic of Khakassia.
So together with last year results when campaign was supported by “Siberian Generating Company” we managed to restore about 55 thousand trees inn 16 hectares.
WWF’s Friends Clubs traditionally active participate in the campaign «Plant your cedar!» Last year, the guys from the clubs' Ayuchak «,» Children of the Lake «(Altai Republic) and »Irbis «(Kemerovo region) planted trees in Gorno-Altaisk, Kemerovo and item Artybash. In Krasnoyarsk, the campaign appeared »Fairytale Alley«, and on the lake in the natural park of the Rainbow »Ergaki' planted 500 young cedars.
This year children from Altai’s Clubs show their inspiration and planted new trees in their cities and villages. And children from Krasnoyarsk School Forestry also join the campaign and plant hundreds of trees in the frame of regional planting competition. The winner I this competitions was Manskoye School Forestry with their project “The Walk of Fame”
«Starting in 2013 in Krasnoyarsk the WWF’s campaign «Plant your cedar!» is expanding its borders to the whole Altai-Sayan Ecoregion. We are hoping for increasing of business support the campaign and we already have the guidance: this year the «Yves Rocher» company donate four hundred thousand euro to restore forests in the Altai in 2014-2015. It is now up to local business to show their social and ecological responsibility. '- sais the head of the Altai-Sayan WWF’s office Alexander Bondarev.
