WWF developed a Conservation Strategy for rare birds of the Kazakhstani part of the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion

17 november 2008
Leading ornithologists of East Kazakhstan met in Ust’-Kamenogorsk

The participants of the meeting discussed the results of the researches on the inventory of key and monitoring bird species in the Kazakhstani Altai done this summer. The main discovered problem is the lack of big trees for placing the nests of eagle, fish-hawk, white-tailed eagle and black stork that makes difficulties for the restoration of these species.

Based on the results of the researches it was decided to implement a number of remedies to correct current situation. In particular it is offered to complete the imitative nidicolous platforms for placing the nests for eagles, fish-hawks, white-tailed eagle, black stork as well as the nest boxes for mergansers, bullheads and owls.

WWF plans to involve the Katon-Karagai National Park and the Markakol’skiy Reserve to the realisation of this Strategy.
