Gifts of Amur tiger on New Year fair
13 december 2012
WWF-Russia together with partners has brought non-timber forest products from the Amur tiger habitats – Korean pine nuts harvesting zones.
The New Year gastronomic fair held in Moscow presents natural products from all over Russia.
Gifts of the Amur tiger are presented by leasers of valuable Korean pine nuts harvesting zones which are key for Amur tigers and local people. 49 years long lease is given to WWF’s partners to harvest non-timber forest products and collect herbs. This means that no commercial logging will be done here.
Being real masters of the leases territories the lease-holders provides extra jobs for local people, protects forests against fires and illegal logging. They are interested in saving the “bread-giving” trees and gaining maximum profit from the complex use of non-timber forest products and not from logging operations.
