New EU Forest Law

New EU Forest Law

Illegally harvested timber sale and products from such timber will be forbidden from March of 2013 according to the new EU Forest Law (Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market). Operators, i.e. companies importing timber to the EU market, as well as trade organizations to which such products are supplied must understand a new situation and take measures to follow the provisions of the law.

The brochure explains what the new EU Regulation is, how and whom it touches upon and how companies should act to according to it in the long-term perspective.

At present European Commission and EU member-states are working to specify and to itemize the Regulation. That is why certain rules changes are possible before it comes into force in March of the following year. You can find detailed information on the site of European Commission: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/forests/timber_regulation.htm
