Adaptation to climate change in river basins of Dauria: Ecology and water management

Adaptation to climate change in river basins of Dauria: Ecology and water management

This report presents the fi rst outcomes of “The impact of climate change on ecosystems of Daurian ecoregion and environmental adaptations to them” Program and an important part of it – “Dauria Going Dry” project initiated by Russian-Mongolian-Chinese Dauria International Protected Area (DIPA) and WWF under auspices of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (UNECE Water Convention). The key question that the Project considers is how to prevent destruction of Daurian natural ecosystems, enhance their resilience and save globally endangered species in circumstances of intensive economic development and climatically caused periodical water defi cit in the region. The project collects and analyses scientifi c information on natural climate-dependent ecosystems processes, their actual conditions and dynamics and anthropogenic infl uence on them. These data is the scientifi c basis for environmental-friendly social and economic development in Dauria Ecoregion.
